Can you introduce yourself in a few words? Your age, your family situation and the country you live in?

Juliette

My name is Juliette and I come from a small town in France’s Ain département. I grew up in the country, with the fresh mountain air on one side and the bustling city of Lyon on the other.

Tell us about your career and how you joined Argos?

Juliette

After two years in an intensive economics-oriented preparatory programme, I entered the EDHEC Business School and decided to pursue a Master’s in Finance. That the programme was offered in the magnificent city of Nice was an added bonus. Following a training programme at the Mazars audit firm, I joined Geneo Capital Entrepreneur as a private equity fund analyst dedicated to supporting SMEs in their long-term strategy. I started as a trainee, then continued as an apprentice on a sandwich course during the last year of my Master’s programme. Through this experience, I was able to work on three large investments in different sectors and learn another aspect of the business: tracking portfolio companies, which is essential for generating value.

On the strength of this initial experience in investment, I then joined Alvarez & Marsal Transaction Services to improve my technical finance skills and learn about financial advisory services. This experience gave me a sound footing in the technical side of the business and showed me the importance of teamwork and discipline in producing high-quality deliverables. Nevertheless, after two and a half years, I felt the need to return to the investment world, re-establish contact with corporate leaders and adopt a holistic approach to each company, not just a financial approach.

That’s when I heard about Argos. I heard that Argos was known for supporting small and mid-sized companies in their development and in giving them the resources they need to grow. I found Argos’s strategy, oriented around climate and decarbonisation, particularly attractive, because it differentiates the company and is clearly a modern approach to investment. After meeting the team, I was convinced that I had made the right choice.

Is this the path you thought you would take when you started your studies?

Juliette

I knew I wanted to work in finance, because I found it stimulating and I was attracted by the analytical requirements. Little by little, I became more interested in corporate finance, realising the extent to which it plays a key role in corporate growth and transformation, and by extension, in the real economy. A discussion with an alumna of EDHEC who works at an investment fund made a big impression on me. She said, “We are the enablers for those who make things happen”. This statement resonates with me and was the spark that made me want to join the investment community.

The world of private equity has changed a lot in recent years. What is your definition of PE? How do you see it?

Juliette

Personally, I see private equity as a powerful means for economic transformation. Private equity can play a key role in innovation, corporate modernisation and the development of strategic sectors. Increasing pressure from stakeholders (suppliers, clients, investors and regulators) is encouraging companies to integrate ESG criteria in a significant and tangible manner. For example, investors now expect funds to give preference to sustainable models, limit their carbon footprint and promote diversity and responsible governance. Far from being a constraint, this transition to a more sustainable form of private equity is a value-creation opportunity that marries financial performance with a positive impact on society.

What gets you out of bed in the morning?

Juliette

My answer may sound simple, but it’s what motivates me every day: the chance to learn continuously, to take on new challenges and to solve problems as part of a team. There is nothing more stimulating than to advance and grow alongside inspiring people and to transform ideas into concrete action.

What encounter - or moment - has marked your journey at Argos?

Juliette

The two days of onboarding with other new employees made a lasting impression on me, because they were an opportunity to talk with people from the other European offices and better understand Argos’s culture and vision at the European level. Discussions like these lead to more cohesion and, from my point of view, they strengthen overall group dynamics.

To describe yourself further: It is said that we are the average of the people we meet. Who do you think they are and how do they influence you?

Juliette

I am convinced that the people around us shape us to a large extent. Every interaction contributes to my development, be they with mentors who challenge my way of thinking, coworkers who motivate me to give my very best, or friends who open me up to new ideas. The people who inspire me most on a daily basis are above all my family, who have imbued me with important qualities: perseverance, open-mindedness, and resilience.

How do you find balance in your life as a whole?

Juliette

For me, playing sports and spending time with family provide balance between my professional and personal lives. They constitute important moments for disconnecting and recharging my batteries. Playing sports allows me not only to release pent-up energy, but also to take a step back and think more clearly. As for time spent with family, I find it essential for focusing on what is most important.

”Personally, I see private equity as a powerful means for economic transformation. Private equity can play a key role in innovation, corporate modernisation and the development of strategic sectors.“

Outside of your job, what are your passions or commitments?

Juliette

I devote a lot of my non-work time to reading, sports and music. Either in literature or in music, my curiosity prompts me to explore different styles and a variety of artists. The sports I play are running and cycling. These activities not only challenge me physically, they also provide me with a mental getaway.

How do you see yourself in 10 years?

Juliette

In ten years, I see myself just as motivated and fulfilled as I am today, both professionally and personally. I hope I will have moved forward in a stimulating environment, where I can continue to learn, take on new challenges and work on meaningful projects. On the personal side, I hope to maintain the balance that will give me real fulfilment, by continuing to follow my curiosity and the things I love doing.

Do you have a place to share with us that reflects you? A place that inspires you and contributes to your balance?

Juliette

Brittany comes to mind and more specifically, the Golfe du Morbihan. I’ve spent several summers there, and for me, the place is synonymous with serenity and joy. With its ocean views, changing light and sea air, the Golfe du Morbihan has the perfect equilibrium between nature and relaxation.

In another life, you would be... ?

Juliette

In another life, I would be a writer. I have always been fascinated by the power of words and their ability to communicate emotion and transport the mind.
