Can you introduce yourself in a few words?

Ylane

My name is Ylane Glück, I am French with Vietnamese and Austrian origins, and I live in Paris.

What path led you to Argos and the position you hold today?

Ylane

After 2 years of preparatory classes in ECS, I completed a Master’s in Finance at EDHEC. I immediately developed a strong interest in sustainable finance, which was confirmed during my first internship at the Forum for Responsible Investment (FIR). I then decided to specialize through the MSc in Climate Change and Sustainable Finance, a double degree with Mines ParisTech. I had the opportunity to intern at Argos, and I loved working within the investment team on both the historical Mid-Market strategy and the new Argos Climate Action strategy After three years at my previous firm, I realised I wanted to focus on transformational impact rather than just native impact. While innovation is key, we also need a transition in the broader economy. I believed I could contribute to a fund that has this kind of strategic focus, which led me to Argos and their Argos Climate Actions initiative.

Is this the path you thought you would take when you started your studies?

Ylane

It is rare to have a precise path in mind at the beginning of your studies… However I learned a lot about PE during my time at Argos and working with IK Partners’ London ESG team during my Master’s project on Sustainability issues in the supply chains of portfolio companies and I am very grateful to learn more every day about private equity.

The world of private equity has changed a lot in recent years. What is your definition of PE? How do you see it?

Ylane

I believe the core of the profession has remained the same: entrepreneurial stories, inspiring teams, and the development of ambitious projects… But private equity is facing new challenges: now ESG/sustainability is essential for European management companies, it has become a prerequisite for many investors and teams, which must be evaluated on the same level as the financial, strategic, and legal aspects… There can no longer be business as usual, and it is exciting to be part of this evolution.

What gets you out of bed in the morning?

Ylane

Learning new things and meeting new people!

What moment has marked your journey at Argos?

Ylane

One of the projects I worked on during my internship comes to mind. I was given a lot of freedom and autonomy to research sustainable sailing and understand potential value creation levers in a pre-due diligence phase. I spent several weeks working on a deep dive presentation of the most material decarbonisation levers across the value chain, existing technologies from competitors and their different maturities, client sensitivity, etc. This presentation was shared with the company’s management team and later validated by an external decarbonisation advisor. It was very gratifying.

How do you find balance in your life as a whole?

Ylane

Spending time with family and friends, running (half marathons for the time being), trying out new sports, baking, reading, and painting questionable art…

A place that inspires you and contributes to your balance?

Ylane

I heard a while ago that people need to see large bodies of water to preserve their mental health. Unfortunately, I no longer live in Nice next to the sea, but I love running along the Seine (instead of the Promenade des Anglais). This is crucial, given that PE still needs to make significant improvements to become a gender-equal and diverse industry. For example, in companies supported by PE funds, the proportion of women in leadership roles – such as chairpersons, managing directors or CEOs – is still only 12%, and the proportion of women on executive bodies is 30% or lower in 81% of holdings (Parity Barometer, France Invest).

In another life, you would be... ?

Ylane

A pastry chef or a jeweler
